So far Ghana has held six (6) violent-free multiparty elections, with the seventh (7th) general elections thus presidential and parliamentary elections slated to take place on December 7, 2020.
In the wake of the 2020 General Election, the Electoral Commission of Ghana saw the need for the commission to have a new register with the hopes of ensuring sanity in the current voters’ register.
This attempt by the EC resulted in the largest opposition thus the National Democratic Congress (NDC) dragging the commission to the Supreme Court for the attempt by the EC to organize new voters register to be brought to a halt.
The Supreme Court in a unanimous decision fouled the complaints of the NDC and another appeal at the Adenta High Court was also thrown out giving the Electoral Commission (EC) the mandate to go with their exercise.
The ruling New Patriotic Party saw the need to prevent sanity in the new voters’ registration exercise by deploying military officials to show up at Ketu South which remains a strong-hold of the NDC.
The Minority NDC in Parliament gave a one-day ultimatum to the government to withdraw military personnel from Ketu South in the Volta Region.
Emmanuel Bedzrah, Chairman of the Volta Regional Caucus addressing a press conference in Aflao, stressed that the troops must to recalled to their barracks immediately.
Volta Region over the deployment of some military men has ignited another form of a tribal row in the political sphere as the two main political parties have picked quite staunch positions on the issue.
Interestingly, the New Voters’ Registration Exercise goes on today and the people of Volta Region and Oti Region according to reports gathered to confirm that Ketu South and other constituencies which were in the news for all the bad reason is engaging in the exercise peacefully?
My question is, what did the NDCs numerous rant yield them?
