Former President Jerry John Rawlings has spoken about his thoughts on the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills who passed away exactly 8 years ago today, a man whom he appointed as his vice president.
Professor Atta Mills, a man who was virtually unknown in the political arena, was appointed by President JJ Rawlings in 1996 after his fallout with Kow Nkensen Arkaah.
The good professor rose to the highest of the land in 2009 after two defeats to John Agyekum Kuffuor in 2000 and 2004.
However, upon ascending the presidency, his relationship with the NDC founder was strained beyond repair after the founder of his own party accused him of failing to deal with what he termed as massive corruption in the previous government.
Today, as Ghana marks 8 years of his passing, Mr. Rawlings has described the late president as an outstanding personality, but typical of Rawlings, he also took the liberty to have a dig at his former subordinate.
